It's Been a While

Or is it awhile? It's 9:05pm and I need a work break. It's been quite some time (sometime?) since I posted anything. To be honest, I'm not sure I have much to say. I'm tired - I know, shocking - and finding life to be full and rewarding, but (if I'm honest) not all that fun these days. At least not Mondays-Fridays. I like my work - in a fundamental kind of way - but I'm tired of this project, tired of long, long days and a to-do list that I will never see the bottom of (not to mention my email, which is so far beyond out-of-control that it's incomprehensible). On the other hand, I think that when I do finally get to Urbana there will be a terrific sense of satisfaction. I had a taste of that this summer when we had our platform speakers retreat. Oscar Muriu walked into the hotel lobby and I was overcome with a sense of joy and satisfaction. I happen to have become quite a fan of Oscar's - and Saul Cruz, and Brenda Salter-McNeil... I have to say, I'm excited to hear their talks from the stage. After the long process of choosing the topics & speakers, I hope that I will be conscious enough to feel some of the experience - and have a few free moments to sit and soak it in onsite. We'll see!

So, thanks for reading. I appreciate prayers. And hugs and phone calls, in case you're interested :) But no chocolate these days - trying very hard (and succeeding) to loose weight! So non-caloric encouragement if-you-please.

Is there really anyone out there reading this?

Charles Frazier has a new book out. His last one was fantastic - though the movie missed the point a bit. Two major flaws in the film - 1) Though she did a fantastic job, Renee Z. was the wrong person to be cast in that part because she's white - and the character was specifically (though subtly) written as multi-racial - it's key to the story and her character! and 2) The ending is predictably Hollywood-ized. But oh well. So after the paperback comes out in a year or so, I'm looking foward to reading this next book!

Back to work now.
